Susan Mortensen Turley - May 7, 1983 - Dec 5, 2008

I couldn't sleep...
My heart is so very full right now. My dearest friend, Susan, passed away tonight. She was diagnosed with colon cancer this summer and after a short but very hard battle, she was taken back to our Father in Heaven tonight. Susan was just married in January of this year. I was blessed with the opportunity to be at her sealing to Justin. It was a very happy day for Susan. She had been waiting awhile for that special moment, and I was so glad she finally had it. Unfortunately, despite all hope she didn't have much time with her sweet beau. If anyone knows Susan, they know she was a fighter. She ran cross country for U of A and was always competing in sports and the like. I know she thought she would be able to beat this cancer - that she could be the exception to all of the statistics, but sadly, she lost the battle. She was just too good of a person and her Heavenly Father needed her. She was such a wonderful, kind, funny, beautiful, Christlike person and she will be forever missed. She has taught me to live each day to the fullest and to serve all those around me. I am so grateful for her friendship and pray that her loving husband and family will find comfort during this very sad time. I know that through the knowledge and testimony of the plan of salvation, we can all find peace as we mourn for her loss. Please pray for her sweet Justin and loving family.

Sus - you will forever be in our hearts. I love you!

She was the kind of person that lit up a room - you just wanted to be near her. Her experiences have taught me to be more grateful for every day trials and struggles. Like her, I am trying to smile and understand that it's for the best. She will do great work on the other side. My heart aches for her family, she will truly be missed.

Kristyn, good to see you last night. I was really sorry to hear about Susan; she will be missed. And while a testimony and knowledge that she has gone to a better place gives comfort and solace it does not completely rid the grief and sorrow that comes from losing a good friend.

Joseph F. Smith wrote a letter to a friend who had just lost a family member sharing, "Time, and time only—that great healer of wounds—can touch my soul, and I think you would no doubt feel the same. But when the first poignant throes of grief are passed and the soul is calmed by time and fate, then a word fitly spoken may touch the tender chord of fellowship flowing from heart to heart in kindred sorrows."

I'm so sorry for your loss. You are in our prayers, as is Susan's family.

Hi-I am a stalker and found your blog through Susans...in fact I think I know you, aren't you Tara's sister? And didn't you call my husband Don Mortensen "cousin" for some reason? Anyway, Susan just moved into my ward and we met them once right before they got the terrible news. Even though we didn't know them too well, I have been so affected and saddened by what happened. I just can't even imagine....I am sorry you have lost such a dear friend. She is definitely a choice individual and I have been so inspired by her.
take care-

I'm saddened by Susan's passing. She was a wonderful, kind person who brightened the lives of those of us who knew her (that smile of her's alone!). I was privileged to be her bishop in Tucson for part of the time she attended the U of A. For her age, she was very mature and unselfish. She was particularly sensitive to and served the needs of others.

She is undoubtedly in a better place where Our Heavenly Father wants her to be. Our thoughts go out to her husband and family who love her so much. God Bless.

Those pictures of Susan are beautiful. She did look really pretty on her wedding day and she was so happy. Those pictures capture the moment pretty well.

Kristyn I will for sure see to tomorrow.

I can't believe that she is gone. I will always remember her sweet bubbly attitude. She was so much fun to be around! I am so glad that I got to the temple with her in December. She will be greatly missed.
